This Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines that outline inclusive actions and behaviors, as well as things Hugging Face ambassadors should and should not do to create a better community for everyone – as individuals and as active members of the Hugging Face Ecosystem.
We hold a collective commitment at Hugging Face to foster environments where all differences between individuals are valued, practices are equitable, and everyone can experience a sense of belonging. We believe in maximizing the power of different perspectives and backgrounds in all communities, so diversity, equity, and inclusiveness are core to how we live our values. We expect Hugging Face Ambassadors to share and embody our values.
Diversity is about differences. These differences include age, cultural and socioeconomic background, disability, education, ethnicity, gender, language, nationality, religious background, and sexual orientation, as well as career paths, experiences, technical skills, and working and thinking styles.
Inclusiveness is about appreciating these differences to create an environment where all people within communities feel and are valued for who they are and are inspired to contribute their personal best and full perspective in every encounter.
Equity is about treating people fairly, regardless of our differences.
Developing truly inclusive behaviors and understanding of other people's experiences is a lifelong endeavor, and there may sometimes be hiccups along the way. If you come to realize that a past action or something you said might have been hurtful, the best thing you can do is take it as an opportunity to educate yourself and do better in the future. Even more importantly, if a community member points out such behavior to you, remember that it is usually harder for them to say it than for you to hear it: speaking out is difficult for a variety of reasons. Again, take this opportunity and honor the trust they've shown in you by doing everything you can to improve in the future.
Always assume the competency of community members: if something looks off or isn't how you would have done it, there's likely either a technical or a historical reason! Give each other the benefit of the doubt and approach each other with kindness and an open mind.
We prefer to lead by positive example and to learn from reasonable mistakes as outlined above, but to be clear, we do not tolerate inappropriate conduct that goes against our core goals and values. Examples include:
